Global footwear giant Nike was Launched by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight in 1963 originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports. Initially operating as an Onitsuka Tigers importer, personal ambition led Knight and Bowerman to begin designing their own sneakers under the name of Nike in 1971. Defined by a distinctive waffle outsole, the duo’s creations quickly gained market momentum. Nike Air technology was patented in 1979 enabling creation of the wildly popular Air Force 1 in 1982, and an endorsement deal signed with Michael Jordan in 1984 put the brand on the path to becoming an enduring pop culture phenomenon. With a firm focus on technical innovation, Nike has continued to produce sneakers, apparel and equipment to enhance athletes’ performance. Led by emerging technologies and new science, signature styles receive updated fabrications and technological features whilst newly designed models feature contemporary silhouettes, quality materials and high-tech details. Today, Nike retains a coveted top spot in street and athletic wear markets, staying on the cutting edge of design, technology, materials research, and refreshing its relevancy with vital collaborations from Supreme to Comme des Garçons. This season we see old models reinvented with the Shox TL sneakers, the classic Air Force 1, the P-6000 in an array of colours and the React Element sneaker as well as a variety of new models defined with a modern aesthetic and geometric chunky sole.
