“The disruptive quality of Y/Project‘s brand and design is Melissa‘s greatest motivator in this Y/Project collaboration,” the not-your-average vegan shoe brand explained in the launch materials. From the moment the Rococo-inspired trio of transparent princess-worthy were first unveiled in the Paris-based off-kilter brand’s 64-looks of wearable chaos back in autumn/winter 21, our fairytale fantasies were realised. As the collaboration has grown, more dreams have come true. Inspired, LN-CC wanted to fulfil a creative whim by suspending the latest drop in a translucent, wobbling world so turned to self-taught baker Kiki Cheung to further disrupt the disruptive.
“I have never made jelly cakes this large,” Kiki confesses but this commission – her first since she moved her cake studio, Murder Cake, from Hong Kong to London – was too good to pass. “Jello and Y/Project x Melissa mules are destined to be the perfect match,” the former fashion creative turned self-taught baker explains. Pushing-possibilities and igniting-imaginations, Muder Cake realised our wibbly wobbly fantasies. Taking transparency to the limits in order to frame the intricate details of the collaborative mules, each whimsical and wonderfully weird yet flawless 12cm cake is the result of meticulous experimentation of ingredients, moulds and colour combinations.
